Hot springs in Baños, Ecuador

If you are visiting Baños de Agua Santa in Ecuador, also known as Pedacito de Cielo (piece of heaven), don't forget to visit the famous hot springs! The natural water contains sulfur, silica, sodium and potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, magnesium bicarbonate, calcium and iron. According to some people who have visited the springs, they also have healing properties.

A few reasons to visit the hot springs of Baños:

• The name Baños de Agua Santa is due to the hot springs, Agua Santa means Holy water.

• These waters are the most frequented and known for their therapeutic properties.

• Thermal baths are baths with a temperature higher than 22 ºC.

• These hot springs come directly from the Tungurahua volcano. Since Baños is located at the foot of the volcano, the water is heated by the volcano.

El Salado hot springs:

They are located 10 minutes from the city center, in the same sector that bears its name El Salado. To get there you can go by car, the journey is short and the signs, Goolge Maps, or Maps clearly indicate the journey.

If you don't have a car, there are also buses from the "Luna Sanchez" company that leave every half hour. Buses leave in front of the Mega Bodega or at Calle Ambato & Eloy Alfaro in the corner.

Hot springs La Virgen:

These hot springs are located at the foot of la Virgen waterfall, in the center of Baños. If you are staying in the city center it is only a 5 minute walk.

Water temperature: 54ºC.

Open from:  4:00 am to 5:00 pm and at night from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. (Only open in the evenings)

Price: Adults $ 4

Children and Seniors $ 2

Remember that a bathing suit is mandatory, as well as a bathing cap and sandals for personal use. If you don't have a bathing cap and sandals, you can also buy them there.
